2023 Kansas Beef Expo Junior Show General Rules

AGE AND ELAGABILITY
All exhibitors must be an active, bona fide 4-H, FFA or Junior Breed Association member to show. Exhibitors must show their own animal unless they have more than one animal in a single class or in opposing ring at the same time or have special circumstances previously approved by show committee. Exhibitors cannot have reached their 22nd birthday prior to January 1, 2023. All exhibitors must have turned 6 years of age as of show day. Any exhibitor under 6 years of age is ineligible to show.

DAYS AND RINGS
The 2023 Kansas Beef Expo Junior Show will be a three day show. A two ring system will be used with a different judge in each A Ring and B Ring
Each day animals will have the option to show in one or both rings. 

ARRIVAL AND SET UP
Youth show entries will be allowed in the barn no sooner than 8:00 AM on Thursday of the show. Check in times will be posted on the official show schedule posted on the web site at www.kansasbeefexpo.com or to social media outlets. All stalling is provided as a first-come first-served method. NO RESERVED STALL SPACE IS AVAILABLE, unless it is purchased through the stall space bid off that will be announced prior to the show on the web site and all social media outlets. Stall spaces may not be reserved for other exhibitors, if a stall space is reserved by signs the signs will be removed by show officials. All chips for bedding inside the barn will be provided to exhibitors. Tie Out space is available to the South of the tie barn. Tie out bedding will need to be provided by the exhibitors. A feed barn will be open during set time periods announced at the show to purchase straw, hay or chips throughout the Kansas State Fair.

STALLING
Youth show cattle may be stalled in the Prairie Pavilion in the designated area. Once an animal is on the grounds that animal is not allowed to leave the grounds unless it is an emergency situation. All animals exhibited are released from the grounds once their respective class or division is complete.
NO GROOMING CHUTES OR TACK WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE DESIGNATED CHIPPED CATTLE TIE STALLS.
All tack and grooming chutes must be in designated areas or alley ways. Overflow stalling is provided in two open sided, covered areas to the immediate East and West of the Prairie Pavilion, electricity is limited in these barns but straw bedding will be provided to exhibitors stalling in those respective areas. Exhibitors may stall in or at their trailers, please respect the grounds as the Kansas State Fair will make visible barriers to mark restricted areas that trailer parking is not permitted. Anyone choosing to remove or move barriers to park trailers will be towed at the vehicle owners expense.

THREE STRIKE RULE
Three Strike rule will be in effect, if an exhibitor loses control of an animal in the show ring more than twice in a class that animal will be excused from the show ring.

KANSAS CHAMPIONS
A Kansas Champion will be selected in each division in Ring B only. Kansas Champions are eligible from all entries that the exhibitors is from the state of Kansas. No additional entries are required for the Kansas awards, if you wish to participate in the Kansas show please make sure you are entered in Ring B. Ring B will be a regular show with out of state exhibitors eligible but additional awards will be given in that ring for Kansas Champion. An overall top 5 will be selected for the Kansas Champions in that specific ring.

HEALTH PAPERS AND OUT OF STATE CATTLE
All animals entering the show grounds that are coming in from outside of Kansas are required to have an official health certificate issued within 30 days of the show. Health certificates must be provided by a licensed veterinarian and have physical address on the health paper. Animals with lesions of ringworm, warts or infested with mange will be excused from the premises.All cattle originating from within Kansas do not need an official health certificate.

SENIOR BREEDING HEIFER SHOW
The Senior Breeding Heifers must be born in the year 2022 and must not have calved. Any heifer that has calved will be ineligible to show. All Senior Heifer classes will be broken by both breed and age. All Senior Breeding Heifers must have respective paperwork from a national association to be eligible to show in that specific breed.  Any animal that has no paperwork proving breed specifications will show in the Commercial division. A breed must have at least (3) three head to represent a breed division. If fewer than (3) three are entered, that breed will show as either Percentage A.O.B. or Purebred A.O.B. A top 5 overall champions will be selected in the Senior Breeding Show in both A and B rings.

JUNIOR BREEDING HEIFER SHOW
Heifers must have been born in 2023. Junior Breeding Heifer classes will be broken by both breed and age. All Breed Heifers must have respective paperwork from a national association to be eligible to show in that specific breed. If breed specific paperwork is not available, exhibitor must show a proof of paperwork to show in a breed. (Application papers or a bill of sale is acceptable if approved by show officials). Any animal that has no paperwork proving breed specifications will show in the Commercial division. All breed specific heifers must be registered in the name of the junior exhibitor. In the instance of multiple owners, junior exhibitor name must be present on registration papers. A breed must have at least (5) five head to represent a breed division. If fewer than five are entered, that breed will show as either Percentage A.O.B. or Purebred A.O.B. Each animal showing in a breed specific class may be subject to a screening committee. All screening committee decisions are final. Heifers MAY NOT be entered in the AOB class, all registered heifers must be entered in a breed division (not commercial). A top 5 overall champions will be selected in the Junior Breeding Show in both A and B rings.

PROSPECT MARKET SHOW
The Prospect Market Show will be for all market animals that have a weight of 999 lbs and under. The Prospect Market Show classes will be broken by both breed and weight. Exhibitors will be responsible for weighing their own animals and turning in a weight prior to check in time. Division winners will be weighed back after respective division and the weight must be within 10% of weight turned in by exhibitor. All Breed Steers must have respective paperwork from a national association to be eligible to show in that specific breed. If breed specific paperwork is not available, exhibitor must show a proof of paperwork to show as a breed. (Application papers or a bill of sale is acceptable if approved by show officials). Any animal that has no paperwork proving breed specifications will show in the crossbred division. A breed must have at least (5) five head to represent a breed division. If fewer than five are entered, that breed will show as A.O.B. Each animal showing in a breed specific class may be subject to a screening committee. All screening committee decisions are final. A top 5 overall champions will be selected in the Prospect Market Show in both A and B rings.

The Kansas Beef Expo Executive Committee and Director has final ruling on interpretation of all rules.7
